The 2025 UK National Rally of the Vintage Glider Club will be held at the Midland Gliding Club, Long Mynd, Shropshire. This year’s event coincides with the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the MGC on its current site. Starting from small beginnings with a few wooden huts built on 10 hectares purchased in 1935, it now owns 134 hectares, a club fleet of eight aircraft, and an active and enthusiastic membership. Many records have been set from the club’s site including Philip Wills’ British height record of 15,300 feet in 1946 and past members include Amy Johnson. Today, the club is a Junior Gliding Centre, and active participation in Women Go Gliding and competitions host. Our friendly membership is excited to welcome Vintage Gliding Club members and their aircraft in this special year in our history.

The club is at 1430 feet, situated on a wide expanse gently undulating moorland, and has excellent launching and landing areas with the primary launches to the south, north and west direct onto our lift-producing six mile long ridge. Thermal, ridge and wave lift are all regularly available. The club has two Sky-launch winches, two cable retrieve winches, and aerotow tugs will also be operating during the rally. A comfortable IT equipped briefing room, maintenance facilities and simulator room are amongst the support facilities. There are many vintage glider enthusiasts amongst the club membership owning a selection of Slingsby gliders and six airworthy K6s.

The clubhouse features a bar, a lounge, a professional kitchen, the famous long table for excellent in-house dining, and on-site accommodation including some en-suite rooms. On-site camping and shower rooms are also available. Nearby Church Stretton is a delightful Shropshire village with excellent dining and further accommodation opportunities as well as rail connections. Within 40 minutes drive are the attractive historic towns of Ludlow and Shrewsbury.
